Hey Southern Soul Academy Family,
We hope this post finds you in high spirits and ready to embark on an exciting journey into the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As we gear up for our upcoming competition, we’re thrilled to delve into the nuances of one of the most strategic positions in BJJ – the top half guard. Get ready for an epic showdown on the mats, filled with camaraderie, skill, and a whole lot of fun!
Mastering the Top Half Guard
The top half guard is a position that demands finesse and technique. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or a newcomer to the art, mastering this position can significantly elevate your BJJ game. We’ll explore effective strategies, sweeps, and submissions that will give you the upper hand in any match.
Competition Details
Weigh-Ins:
- Friday Night (6-6:30 PM) or Saturday Morning (Kids: 8-9:30 AM, Adults: At least 60 minutes before your division start time)
Make sure to get your weigh-ins done on time to ensure a smooth start to the competition.
What to Wear:
- No-Gi is First
Kids can come in their No-Gi attire, or if they prefer, they can change at the venue. It’s all about comfort and confidence on the mats.
Adults, I recommend coming in something comfortable and changing there. You want to mentally and physically change from “spectator/teammate” to “competitor.”
What to Bring:
- Snacks (Granola Bars and Fruit Provided)
- Any Drinks (Stay Hydrated!)
While we’ll have some snacks on hand, feel free to bring any additional snacks you might need. Staying fueled and energized is key to a successful day of competition.
What to Expect:
- Kids No-Gi Divisions First
- Gi Follows
- Then Adult Female Divisions, followed by Adult Male.
The excitement kicks off with our young talents showcasing their skills in the No-Gi divisions. Keep an eye on Smoothcomp for updates on match timings. Following the Kids No Gi, we’ll move on to the Gi divisions and, typically, conclude the kids divisions around noon.
Embrace the Experience
Remember, the primary goal of this competition is to have fun and celebrate the spirit of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There’s no pressure to win except the pressure you put on yourself. Win or lose, every match is an opportunity for growth, learning, and building lasting connections within our supportive community.
We can’t wait to see each and every one of you on the mats, giving your best and sharing the joy of BJJ. Let’s make this competition a memorable event filled with warmth, camaraderie, and the undeniable spirit of Southern Soul Academy.
See you there, ready to roll!
